AA First Class, again and again...
Trying to requalify for 2017 EXP in one month

Breakfast

As good as the LAX-JFK cabin crew was on my inbound, this crew? Not so much on this flight.

Nothing says AA Flagship First like... plastic.

Today's weak menu.

The AA amenity kit.

And are we really that lazy that we can't unwrap the salt and pepper shakers??

I still can't get over the wrapped salt and pepper.

As for the meal itself, other than the always excellent yogurt parfait, your basic cheap midcon breakfast.

Today's "Warmed on Board Cookies"  Either a catering error or more laziness with the Chips Ahoy served in a napkin. Really?
I'm guessing lazy as when I finally decided to call the Purser on this and inquired "no plates today?", she glared at me, didn't say anything and continued on with the cookies to the next row.

Naturally, no 2nd napkin to use when chocolate gets all over the first napkin.

Another beautiful SoCal morning.

And the usual Gate 42A next to Bus Gate 44.

With 30 minutes to boarding, I headed for the Bus Terminal Admirals Club.

Lunch

And on the other end of the service spectrum...

Great crew and terrific, indeed flawless service. Captain gave the greeting in person from the front of the plane. PDB, drink and lunch orders taken in advance.

Drinks and nuts delivered together. Lunch choice of chicken wrap or southwest salad with BBQ chicken.

And more beautiful scenery on our journey back east.

Just a little colder back home in Denver.

On my walk back to the main terminal, plane spotting a United 747.

Denver-Pittsburgh
February 10, 2016

I had planned this trip for late January but had to change my plans when a conflict arose in Pittsburgh.    Too bad since I had a great $278 roundtrip fare and my upgrades had cleared on all legs.  AA now wanted $800 for a round-trip Y ticket.  LOL, right. Dream on.  So, this trip starts with a United non-stop, at 25,000 Aeroplan miles and $5.60.  On the way to DIA, celebrating a Super Bowl victory.  Sorry to leave with today's spectacular 65F/19C temps.

Give United a chance and wouldn't you know it, delayed.

The United Club is so bad that I just went to the gate and was pleasantly surprised to find a nice Lounge.  LOL.

Lunch

Not sure what the equipment problem was today as today's plane was coming inbound from BWI and only was scheduled to arrive at 10:10a, after our scheduled departure time.

Pity the person unlucky enough to have sit next to this woman and her "emotional support" service dog.  Sure it is.

Lunch choices of Fiesta Chicken Bowl or Peppered Salmon Salad. My Fiesta Chicken Bowl.

Was initially confused by what appeared to be a starter. Ahi?

Oh, now I get it. Salsa and avocado for the chicken. Was actually pretty good once I dumped it on the chicken and mixed it in.

fter the chicken, I dumped the salad into the large dish which made it fit nicely. That dopey little salad bowl is way too small.

And excellent baked on board triple chocolate chip cookies. So much better than AA's pathetic "warmed on board" Chips Ahoy.

Approaching PIT where the temps are about 50 degrees colder.

Jeez, this place is frigid.  No sightseeing this trip.

Actually I do like Pittsburgh. Beautiful setting and the city has re-invented itself from its steel days to a diversified economy including banking, health and service industries.  Some pics from warmed temp days...

Jetsmarter strikes again.  Has my $7,000 annual membership ever paid off.  Jetsmarter has started shared shuttle flights between numerous cities with the crown jewel being a Gulfstream G-IV from White Plains to Van Nuys.  Which of course led a ridiculous PIT-LGA-W30-HPN-VNY-LAX-DFW-DEN routing.  I left my Pittsburgh office at 11:45a and headed down 376 for the 25 minute drive to the airport.

With 40 minutes before departure, I headed to the Admirals Club, a former US Airways Club and one of the oldest and most in need of a total makeover in the system.  But with a wonderful staff.  Amazing service today as AAngel Mary tracked me in the club and told me that NY weather was backing up and delaying LGA flights, including my 1:04p departure. She moved me from my CRJ to an earlier delayed 12:15p E75 flight (now rescheduled for 1:05p) and put me on the UG list, which the gate agent confirmed as soon as I arrived at the gate.

I needed to do 10 minutes of work before I left, so I headed to the Centurion Lounge, probably the most crowded of the ones I've visited.

The Uber into the city to the West 30th Street Heliport where today's Jetsmarter experience began... with the usual free helicopter service to HPN/White Plains airport.

The crowded Pegasus waiting room.

OK, not the most luxurious ride as five of us and luggage were stuffed in for the 15 minute flight.

And what a fun flight it was with gusts up to 40 mph.  Lots of rocking and rolling as we head up the Hudson.

Fifteen minutes after takeoff from the W. 30th Street heliport, we arrived at Signature West at HPN.

OMG, is it cold here.

Inside the FBO, we waited for the rest of our fellow passengers on the next flight from the West 30th heliport.

A less than luxurious start as we boarded a bus for the short 30 second ride to our G-IV.

Our Captain for tonight's flight to the west coast.

A full cabin of 13 JetSmarter members tonight.   We were pre-assigned seats by the JetSmarter staff according and it worked very well especially since the 7 pax up got the wider "First Class" seats.  And what an interesting, indeed fascinating mix of people, all of whom were friendly.   Once in the air, the flight was a little reminiscent of a cocktail party, with new friendships.  And our lovely, hard working flight attendant Erica provided excellent service.

Food wasn't memorable but a selection of salads and sandwiches keep up well fed.

And said lovely Erica with fabulous desserts.

And the girls' desserts.

A short five hours and thirty minutes later, we touched down at VNY.

And bid adieu to our new friends, promising to keep in touch.

My G-IV seatmate offered me a ride to LAX and just 10 minutes before the last LAX-DEN flight of the evening.   And it was on time tonight.  So off to the Admirals Club.

At around T-40, I headed downstairs from the Admirals Club to Gate 42B, where boarding had already begun.

Unfortunately, my upgrade had not cleared and I headed for my assigned 8A for the miserable 3 hours flight to DFW.  Note to self, 8A may be the bulkhead but there isn't much legroom.

Fortunately, my stay in 8A lasted only 5 minutes as another pax arrived saying that he had 8A.  LOL, that can only mean that my upgrade cleared after I had boarded.  Indeed, 3D was a no show and I got the last F seat.   Since 3D was occupied I took 8C.  Much better than 8A, but the A32B F seat is one of the least comfortable F seats.  God, what I wouldn't give for an old comfy Mad Dog seat.

Three miserable hours later, we arrived at the A terminal.

Off to SkyLink and the trip to the D terminal.

Where the Centurion Lounge had just opened for the morning.

At T-40, I headed over of D23 and the last leg of this week's saga.

Boarding in 1 minute turned into boarding in 20 minutes due an apparently minor mechanical issue.

Well I didn't quite make in a month.  I had to cancel a couple of trips including NAS.  But I'm close enough now that I don't have to worry about finding 28,000 in the next 10+ months.   Thanks for following along on this saga.
