Lufthansa A380 First Class Denver-Munich

Today I’m off with Mrs. SFO777 for 10 days in Italy, starting with Lufthansa’s A380 First Class nonstop from Denver to Munich.  Despite Mrs. SFO777's announcement twice in the last year that "this is my last flight ever", she's back in the skies.  What started as a multi-glass wine affected "I'd love to spend a month in Tuscany" turned into a week in Tuscany a few days later.  Then there was the realization that United's Denver-Rome nonstop was actually on United, and Business Class.  LOL.  So here we are at DIA and Lufthansa First Class.  And our week in Tuscany has turned into a week in Umbria.

Very nice choice of pre-departure bubbles.

Today's Monthly Proposal... a lovely Italian Gin.

The amuse bouche, served with a fork.  LOL.

Today's menu...

Time for wine.  Not extravagant but very pleasant nevertheless.

And appropriate since we are going to Italy.

Not Emirates caliber, but nice large lav.

Too bad the water isn't working in the sink.

Nap time for a few hours before we begin our descent to Munich.

Welcome to Munich.

And welcome to Munich. Seriously?  United Polaris nonstop to Rome doesn't look so bad now.

Lufthansa FIrst Class Lounge Munich

Nice enough lounge but not very relaxing trying to deal with how to recover from the cancellation of our connecting Munich-Florence Air Dolomiti flight.  Unfortunately, all other Munich-Florence flight that day were sold out, so we were rebooked on Munich to Bologna via Frankfurt.  Apparently to Lufthansa, Bologna is close enough to Florence.

Time for lunch as we waited for our Munich-Frankfurt flight.

SInce it's Oktoberfest, an Oktoberfest beer...

We both enjoyed the fabulous veal schnitzel.

TIme to head off to the gate for our flight to Frankfurt.

Train to the G gate concourse.

Miraculously, our checked bag is on our plane.

Lufthansa "Business" Class...

Lufthansa First Class Terminal at Frankfurt

The only good part about our reroute via Frankfurt is the opportunity to spend a couple hours in the First Class Terminal.  Of course, we had to walk all the way from the terminal, then outside past the taxi stand and across the street.  Not a very First Class experience, but this is Lufthansa, not Air France.

Once inside, nice as ever and Mrs. SFO777 slept for nearly two hours in one of the sleep rooms.

But of course, our Bologna flight is delayed.

Lufthansa "Business Class" to Bologna

At T-20, our Personal Assistant escorted us downstairs to our beautiful BMW 7 series for the ride around the tarmac to our plane.

Now this is the way to get to the plane!

"Who are these people that get a limo ride?"  LOL

Fortunately, we were assigned bulkhead seats, the only good seats in fake Business Class.

With overhead bins completely full, the Purser let me use the Air France trick.

Tasty meal on our 55 minute flight.

Welcome to Bologna.

And our checked bag arrived with us!

Our Airbnb in Umbria

Always fun to look at Airbnb/VRBO options on extended stays.   While we initially focused on Tuscany, nothing really intrigued us like this villa, just over the Tuscany/Umbria border.   A 3 bedrom villa on lush, gated 10 acre hillside property overlooking Lago Trasimeno and the town of Passignano sul Trasimeno.

Lots of olive trees.

My Instragram video of our Umbrian villa and Passignano sul Trasimeno.

Passignano sul Trasimeno

Lovely, quiet historic town on the northeastern shore of Lago Trasimeno.

Time for lunch at Osteria da Liam.

Veal fillet with truffles.

Tagliatelle... with truffles.

And that evening, dinner at elegant Ristorante Sottovento.

Linguini with lobster and tomatoes.

Lovely fresh insalata.

Risotto with shrimp and truffles.

Branzino.

And yummy tiramisu to finish.

Sunny day poolside

With lots of sun and temps in the mid-70sF/24C, time to relax poolside.

Amazingly fragrant wall of rosemary by the pool.

Lunchtime poolside with Italy's version of two buck chuck.

Happy hour...

And dinner in town after a long, hard day.  LOL

Time for dessert.

Eating and drinking our way around Umbria

After a relaxing morning, we headed out for a 35 minute drive to the Lamborghini estate.

And lunch...

Yummy amuse-bouche.

Delicious Vitello tonnato

Extraordinary carbonara with truffles.

Excellent cannelloni

That evening, we headed to historic Perugia.  The walk to our restaurant.

And the Real Truffle Experience.

Oh yeah!!

Bruschetta with black truffles.

Amazing Traditional Umbrian paté... with truffles.

The Real Carbonara... and more truffles.

And to finish, fabulous Basil ice cream with truffles.

Amazing meal.

And now the real challenge... driving the narrow one lane alleys after a bottle of wine.

Exploring Umbria

Another relaxing day in paradise.

And then dinner at Casa Corsetti in nearby Magione.  Our private wine cellar table.

Fabulous and shockingly inexpensive Brunello.

Tenderloin.

Wonderful rib-eye.

A truly enjoyable dinner.  And insane bargain at only 102€ including tax and service, after thefork.it discount.

Ho hum, another beautiful day.

Time for drive in the countryside, and lunch.

Lunch at Ristorante La Boiola.

Watching the Ryder Cup.

Movie night back at our villa.

Sunday in Tuscany

Today we're off to explore Tuscany and specifically Montepulciano.

And lunch at wonderful la Grotta.

A wow on the wine list.

Bruschetta al Pomodoro

Cinta Senese Pork Filled Ravioli, Black Cabbage and Sweet and Sour Pumpkin

Oh my.  Home Made Pappardelle, Veal Shank Ragù and Pieve Saffron Butter

Nobile Wine Glazed Beef Short Ribs, Sweet Potato Purè and Purple Cabbage.  Fabulous!

And decadent desserts to complete the best meal of the trip.

Gorgeous Tuscan scenery.

And a beautiful sunset back at our villa.
