Off to Singapore, Sydney and Jakarta

Today I’m off on a whirlwind 5 day trip to Singapore, Sydney and Jakarta. Because why not? LOL. And really excited to be back in Singapore First Class from LAX to Singapore and then fabulous Singapore A380 Suites to Sydney, and all on KrisFlyer miles. But first I need to get to LAX and that means pathetic United who won’t even serve breakfast on a 2+hour 7:45am breakfast.

6am is a great time for Clear+ PreCheck.

And into the abyss that is DIA...

Over at the B concourse, United's boarded up Customer Service area.

Very nice new A321neo

Wonderful scenery en route to LAX.

United breakfast... too cheap to serve a real meal since DEN-LAX is just under the magic 900 mile requirement.

Nice day in LA.

With 5 hours to kill, first stop is the United Polaris Lounge, accessible with my SQ boarding pass.

The Polaris Lounge dining room...

The breakfast tostado was delicious.

At around T-3 hours, I headed landside for some exercise and the long walk to the Bradley Terminal.   $8 to rent a cart??  Seriously?

At the Bradley, all is well!

Especially with a personal escort to the Star Alliance First Class Lounge.

Nothing special with no views, but quiet since I was the only passenger for an hour.

I decided to have a bite to eat.

Meh menu.

And a not so good Shrimp Ceviche.

At around T-45, my personal escort to the gate.

Nice sunset over the eastern coast of Japan on approach to Narita.

With an hour layover in Tokyo, I headed to the nearby United Club.

One of the largest and nicest United Clubs in the system.

And back to Gate 35 for the continuation of SQ11.

My Day (or 18 hours) in Singapore

My home for the night or what was left of it was the Swissotel The Stamford.  Nice suite upgraded on an Accor status match from Hyatt.

Beautiful view of the Marina Bay from my suite.

And a few hours later...

Time for a little breakfast.

With a view.

A few hours later, on my way to lunch, just a short walk away.

For lunch today in Singapore, I’m back for my second visit to fabulous Odette, a wonderful Michelin 3 star experience. Ranked #24 in the world and #7 in Asia in the San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best lists, Odette is a pure delight. Amazing food with impeccable service. And kudos to the sommelier as this was the best premium wine pairing ever. What a thoroughly enjoyable two hours.

Amuse-bouche.

Today's tasting menu and amazing Legacy wine pairing.

MARUKYO UNI.  Masa ebi • Dashi cloud • Daurikus caviart

Wow!

Singapore First Class A380 Suites to Sydney

After an enjoyable 15 hours in Singapore, it’s back to Changi for my A380 Suites flight to Sydney. Great to be back at world's best airport and with Singapore, from the attractive Private First Class Terminal check in and then SQ’s The Private Room where I was able to nap and then have a delicious dinner.

Singapore First Class Check-in Terminal

Upstairs to the SilverKris Lounges.

And The Private Room for Singapore First Class and Suites passengers.

The Private Room has some very nice sleep rooms and I enjoyed a 90 minute power nap.

And then over to the dining area.

Oh yeah.

Delicious Chili Crab Capellini.

And yummy Butter Chicken.

At T-60, off to the gate for my A380 Suites flight to Sydney.

SQ’s A380 Suites is one of the best First Class products in the skies. Combine that with wonderful service, and it was an all too short marvelous 8 hour experience.

No shower unlike Emirates, but a very comfy and large lav.

After take-off, another round of satay.

Tonight's menu...

Showtime!

Another glass of the wonderful Elderton Shiraz.

Spiced Beef Shortrib was yummy.

Time for bed again.

Beautiful sunrise on approach to Sydney.

Welcome to Sydney.

My Day in Sydney

My home in Sydney today and tonight is the Hyatt Regency Sydney.  Comfy room with a nice view.

After a power nap, I headed out for a leisurely walk to The Rocks.

Lunch today is at 6HEAD, a great Australian steakhouse.  Lovely harbourside location and atmosphere.

Wonderful bread.

Lunch was an out of this world, perfectly prepared rib eye from O’Connor Farms, accompanied by a couple glasses of exceptional Barossa Valley Shiraz.

Fabulous.

Even better.

My Instagram video of my morning at The Rocks and lunch at 6HEAD.

For dinner, it was back to the harbourfront to Matt Moran’s Aria near the iconic Sydney Opera House. My last visit to Aria was enjoyable, some 10 years ago with Mrs. SFO777. I’ve also enjoyed Matt’s creations in Singapore First Class.

Aria is still the same lovely atmosphere and spectacular view of the Opera House. Food was as excellent as ever as was the service. But it was the wine pairing experience that was such a turnoff that I doubt I’ll return. Wines were mostly fine but it was the small amount of the pours that was the most annoying. The last time I had such cheap and insulting minuscule pours was at Le Bernardin in New York. If it’s a question of profit, raise the damn price and offer a proper pour, one that doesn’t drive me to order two Gin & Tonics to make up the difference. Then there was the (assistant) sommelier who copped an attitude from the get go and really looked like she’d rather be someplace else.  Miss Personality...

Two gulfs blue swimmer crab.

Delicious.

Another lovely wine.

But another cheap miniscule pour.

Heirloom tomato, artichoke, basil and buckwheat.  Fabulous.

Lovely Pinot.

But another insulting pour.

Maremma duck was outstanding, with onion, thyme and plum.

Fabulous Yarra Valley Cab Blend with another ridicuously tiny pour.

Rangers Valley Wagyu.  Outstanding.

The next morning, breakfast in the Hyatt Club Lounge.

Garuda Business Class to Jakarta

With my 5 day hall pass expiring tomorrow, it’s time to head home to Denver. On this trip, my routing was determined entirely by award seat availability. I found Cathay First Class from Hong Class to JFK. Now how to get to Hong Kong to take advantage? Well via Jakarta of course. Flying Blue was offering 38,000 mile Business Class seats for the almost 8 hour flight in one on my favorite airlines Garuda Indonesia. Timing was perfect as it gave me 7 hour Jakarta connection, enough time to drive into the city for dinner.

Apparently free Filtered Drinking Water is a big deal here.

Oxymoron of the year.  Economy Deluxe.  LOL.

With an hour to spare, off to the SkyTeam Lounge.

And then off to the gate.

With a serious case of gate lice.

While Garuda service was excellent as always, sadly they swapped out a new A330neo to an ancient A332 with dated 2-2-2 seating.  Despite the cabin and seat, this was an enjoyable flight thanks to a marvellous Garuda crew and an interesting and engaging seat mate.

Old Businees Class seat that is past its prime.

Yummy starter.

Delicious Braised Chicken Curry.

And loaded ramen.

Somewhere over Australia.

Business Class snack bar.

Welcome to Jakarta.

Thanks for my APEC card and advanced VOA, I was landside in no time.   My prearranged Bluebird car/drive was a no show or at least an 40 minutes late..

So Grab to the rescue.

Welcome to crazy Jakarta traffic.

28 kilometers in 70 minutes, but plenty of time for my dinner rez.

Dinner at August Jakarta

With a 7 hour connection in Jakarta, what a delight to experience dinner at August in the Sequis Tower. Amazing Indonesian influenced contemporary food, creatively presented. Combine that with wonderful service from a welcoming staff and this was a memorable culinary evening.

My chef's counter table for the evening.

Tempe, Oncom XO

Malang Apple, caviar

Snap Pea Tart with Potato Hash 'Rendang'

Signature Foie Gras PB&J.  Fabulous.

Scallop 'Pindang', Chili Oil

Pork Belly 'Woku', Kalamansi

Jakarta Salad

Daikon, mushroom, chicken clam broth

Octopus, Corn Laksa, Smoked Grapes.

White Fish, Bilimbi, Ginger flower

Wagyu Cheek, Black Curry, Snake Fruit

What a wonderful and enjoyable meal.

Cathay Pacific Business Class to Hong Kong

Time to head home to Denver. My 24 hours with Cathay Pacific starts with a pleasant 4 hour Business Class flight to Hong Kong where I slept the entire flight. Then a couple of hours in Cathay’s marvelous First Class Lounge The Pier.

Pleasant regional Business Class cabin.

My 3rd row seat 14A.  I have no idea.

I went to lie flat mode right after take-off and slept the entire 4 hour flight.   At Hong Kong, unlike my last visit, not a single person in the transit security queue.

My home for the next couple of hours, Cathay's lovely FIrst Class Lounge, The Pier.

After a much needed, shower, time for breakfast.

Yummy Dan dan mien.

And Croque Monsieur.  Not Buvette, but still pretty tasty.

Cathay Pacific First Class Hong Kong to New York JFK

Excited to be back in Cathay Pacific First Class and today’s 16 hours flight to JFK. Sure it’s dated but Cathay’s classic 6 seat First cabin is still very comfy with one of the best beds in the sky. Wonderful service today with great champagnes and some nice wines. The only negative is a rather weak menu, sadly a far cry from pre-Covid Cathay which was fantastic.

A great way to start the flight.

Very nice and comfy JPs and in my favorite color.

That's a meh on the amenity kit.

Today's wonderful wine list.

Oh, and menu...

Once in the air, the spectacular 2004 Krug... and I'm the only one drinking today!

Showtime: Cathay First Style.

Drunken prawns with aged Huadaio wine.  Meh.

Another wonderful Bordeaux

Wok fried seafood in lobster broth, crispy and steamed rice, spring onions and ginger.  Delicious.

Bed time in one of the most comfy beds in the skies.

Time for breakfast.

Wonderful fruit starter.

And dim sum.

Breakfast congee.

A few hours later, Cathay burger.  Meh.

Some wonderful scenery as we approach JFK.   Mackinaw Bridge and Island in Michigan's UP.

And Ontario's western coast of Lake Huron.

What a wonderful 16 hour flight from Hong Kong.

Delta First Class to Denver

Since Cathay operates from Terminal 8, I hopped on the AirTrain for the short ride to Terminal 4.  Cool collection of airline tails from the train.

Off to the new Delta SkyClub in the A gate concourse.

For 2,800 Sky Pesos, a great deal for a wonderful champagne.

Then the long hike to B concourse.

My first time on a new Delta A321neo and this is one very attractive cabin.

Excellent seat back entertainment options.

Including live TV.  Cool to watch round 3 of the Masters.

Short rib dinner was very good.

And the yummy Do&Co dessert.

Pretty sunset as we approach Denver.

What a wonderful whirlwind trip to southeast Asia and Australia.  Thanks for following along.
