Christmas in Paris

Off to Paris... via Vancouver

Today I’m off the Paris for my annual Paris Christmas fix and dinner with friends. I chose Vancouver-Paris as Air France is operating their gorgeous new A350-900 with new Business Class seats.  But first, an Air Canada positioning flight.

And once again, I'm reminded of how much I despise this airline, from my early years living in Montreal.  Sure, why make it easy for anyone to get a digital boarding pass?  Despite all the proper documentation on my reservation, I was forced to check-in with an agent before heading all the way back to security.  A normal, sane airline would simply do a doc check at the gate.   But I disgress.

The only good thing about flying Air Canada is that they operate from the A concourse, so I can walk and don't have to take the stupid DIA train.

Time to relax in the Capital One Lounge.

Lounge Hopping at YVR

Welcome to sunny Vancouver!  lol

After a long, long, long airside walk, I'm in International Departures, without having to do immigration and additional security.

First stop is the SkyTeam Lounge, to see if it is any better than my last visit a couple of years ago.

Nope, same old meh.

Time to explore other options.  The Cathay Lounge would be nice, if it was open and if I was flying One World.

A few minutes later, I'm at the Plaza Premium Lounge.

Excited to try Plaza Premium FIRST, the upgraded lounge experience.

CAD 30 gets Priority Pass members into FIRST.

Very nice and uncrowded.

And great tarmac views.

Both buffet and order from the menu options...

Yummy Short Rib Paella off the menu.

And Butter Chicken from the buffet,

My gorgeous A350-900 arrving from Paris and taxiing to the gate.

Relaxing watching the end of the exciting Bills-Patriots game.

Air France A359 Business Suite to Paris

I chose Vancouver-Paris as Air France is operating their gorgeous new A350-900 with new Business Class seats.  And spacious bulkhead Business Suites, one of which I was fortunate to reserve.

Sky Priority Zone 1 queue.  lol.  Line was maybe 50/60 pax.

Beautiful cabin.

And my rear mini-cabin.  Even the inside bulkhead seats are spacious.

My roomy Suite 10A.

Nice electronics.

Pre-departure champagne.

No PJs in Business Class but I brought my Emirates PJs.

Today's menu.

And wine list.

Excellent in fiight service began shortly after take-off.

The shredded veal confit was sensational.

A mattress pad made sleeping a litlte more comfy.

Pre-landing breakfast, mostly for the photo op.

Spectacular sunrise on approach to Paris.

The most impressive and totally unexpected was an Air France La Première personal assistant meeting me on arrival and escorting me by private limo to private passport control (while I relaxing in the car) and then to the La Première arrivals lounge.   I have an La Première flight tomorrow afternoon on a completely separate ticket (30 hours later) but apparently that was enough to trigger the full LP arrival service. Very impressive Air France.

The ultimate in passport control convenience... sitting in the limo while my personal assistnat went inside to clear me into France.

Next stop, the beautiful La Première arrivals lounge.

For the perfect La Première breakfast.

And my fave Alain Ducasse dish... coquillettes jambon/truffes noir

Park-Hyatt Paris-Vendome

The drive from the airport into the city took well over an hour, but afforded some great Paris scenery on a sunny +10C day.

And finally, my home for the day and night in Paris... the elegant Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome, located just off Place Vendome.  And home of one of the best Hyatt points values where entry level rooms start at 1300€ a night.

My upgraded 1st floor room.  35,000 Hyatt points for a 1600€ room.

Christmas at Galeries Lafayette

After a refreshing power nap and shower, I headed out to take in the Christmas decorations, but especially at iconic Galeries Lafayette and Printemps.

Simply stunning.

The Galeries Lafayette rooftop boasts one of the most stunning view of Paris.  And this year, there is a rooftop skating rink.

Next stop is Printemps.

With another rooftop skating rink.

And more beautiful views...

Paris Christmas Lights

Paris at night during Christmas is magical.  So at 5:30pm, I decided to walk a couple of miles to see as many of the Christmas lights and decorations as I could before dinner.

Dinner at Michelin star Comice

What a delight to be back at Michelin star Comice tonight, and this time with friends. Comice is owned by Canadian husband and wife team, chef Noam Gedalof and sommelier Etheliya Hananova. Brilliant tasting menu and perfect wine pairing at a surprisingly affordable price for this caliber cuisine, and with nothing but Zalto wine glasses!! Comice is intimate, chic and very comfortable. Service was impeccable from the entire team. What an enjoyable evening.

Kabocha squash velouté

Sea scallop carpaccio.

Decadent Foie Gras au Torchon.

Fabulous Roasted Caulifower a la grenobloise.

Carnaroli risotto with crab.

Steamed Turbot Filet, Béarnaise Mousseline sauce

Chocolate Soufflé to die for, and Winter Citrus Tartlet for finish a wonderful dinner experience.

And we even made it to Trocadero for the top of the hour light show.

Since the night was still young, time for some Paris bar-hopping, staring with iconic Bar 228 at Le Meurice and finishing back at the Park Hyatt.

Home of the world's best Whiskey Sour!

Next stop: The Ritz

A queue for Bar Hemingway?  We'll pass on that.

Meanwhile back at the Park Hyatt, lots of seats at the bar.

And a hot chocolate with Bailey's to cap a perfect Paris evening.

My light complimentary breakfast at the Park Hyatt...

Air France La Première Lounge - Paris CDG

Welcome to my 16 hour day with Air France La Première, the world’s best First Class experience. There is no better First Class ground experience than the Air France La Première experience at Paris CDG. La Première passengers check-in at the private CDG entrance and lounge, then driven by private limo to the fabulous La Première Lounge. The lounge features an Alain Ducasse restaurant with great food and wines.

My La Première driver met me at the Park Hyatt a few minutes before my requested 9:15am pick up time.

And some 50 minutes later, we arrived at CDG.

And the La Première check-in lounge.

After my docs were checked and boarding pass issued, it was off to the La Première Lounge.

La Première Lounge.

Time for breakfast.

Pourquois pas!

One more time this trip.  lol.

Time for my complimentary 11am facial.

So relaxing.

And it's lunchtime!

Decadent filet de boeuf aux poivres and creamy mashed potatoes.

Oh yeah!

And the always amazing Baba au rhum to finish.

After an enjoyed few hours in the lounge, it was downstairs for another limo ride to my departing Air France fight to Los Angeles.
